Wine is an age-old tradition that plays an important part in almost every culture. The area around Waypoint Apartments is no different. Whether you enjoy sipping a red or white variety, you can spend a fun evening at one of the best wineries near Hampton Roads. Explore these wineries for wine tours, pastries, and organized events.

Mermaid Winery

Known as the state’s first urban winery, Mermaid Winery features limited production wines that focus on the characteristics of each varietal. The winemakers use grapes from both Virginia and California. You can watch the creation process from the tasting bar. In addition to offering its own wines, the winery also features eight hundred choices from around the world. Guests always enjoy friendly service. Throughout the year, you can also attend events such as Movie Night on the Patio and Free Tasting Friday. The wine selection includes Pinot Noir, My Beach Peach, and The Siren’s White.

Smithfield Winery

The owners of the Smithfield Winery began by making wines at home in small batches. As their passion grew, they knew that they wanted to share their creations with others. All of Smithfield Winery’s wines are made in-house, and the passionate staff also enjoys chatting with their guests. The selection includes a variety of red and white reserve wines, as well as a local favorite known as their “southern bubbly.”

Hampton Roads Winery

Nestled in nearby Elberon, the Hampton Roads Winery is found at the White Oak Farm where Harry Spratley raised horses in 1898. Today, the land is owned by a husband and wife team. They have repurposed the farm for growing grapes and producing wines. On Saturdays and Sundays, you can visit a farmers market inside the winery. So stop by to try fresh coffee, delectable pastries, and in-season produce from local farmers. The tasting room is casual, and the wines include Petit Verdot, Simply Seyval, and Hog Island Sweet Red.
