The great American pastime is alive in Hampton Roads, no more so than at Harbor Park, home of the Norfolk Tides. 2017 is the 25th year that Harbor Park has hosted home games for the Tides, the Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The regular home schedule, running through August 31, sees the Tides playing the Louisville Bats, the Durham Bulls, the Columbus Clippers and the Toledo Mud Hens, among other International League teams.
Off the diamond, Harbor Park has a diverse selection of food and beverages, ranging from old favorites like hamburgers and hot dogs to trendier items including gelato and craft beer. The park also hosts dozens of fun themed games. Promotions include a Virginia Teach Hokie Night on Thursday, July 13, appearances by the Zooperstars on Friday, July 28 and Bark in the Park on Sunday, August 6. There are also special giveaways for fans, notably rally towels on Monday, June 26 and snow globes on Friday, July 14. Post-game fireworks shows are slated for several games this summer, including Saturday, July 1 and Saturday, July 29. Tickets to each game are available for between $10 and $15.
If Norfolk is too far for a baseball game, the Peninsula Pilots play at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton. The Pilots are not professional ball players, but current college players looking to develop their skills over their summer break. Playing as part of the Coastal Plain League, the Pilots’ schedule runs through early August.
