It’s Spring! A good time to get out and go for a run. It’s especially a good time to get out and run for a good cause – like the Get Your Rear in Gear 5K Race happening this Saturday, March 26th. Get Your Rear In Gear is a benefit for colon cancer. Participants are welcome to run or walk the 5K that travels through Hampton Roads!
In Get Your Rear in Gear, like many runs and walk-a-thons, participants ask sponsors to pledge a certain amount when they finish the race. The funds will then be used for the Colon Cancer Coalition, which is dedicated to public education about the risk of colon cancer and treatment methods.
Although colon cancer can be fatal, it is also highly preventable if people are screened appropriately. The Coalition spreads the word on how necessary screenings are for everyone, whether they have a family history of colon cancer or not.
The Get Your Rear in Gear 5K race will be held on Matteson Trail at 320 Butler Farm Road. Parking is available across from the trailhead at Hampton Golf Course.
Registration for the race will begin at 8 a.m. sharp. (And yes, it is possible to register up until the race begins!) An opening ceremony will begin at 8:40am. The run itself will start at 9:00am. People wanting to walk all or take part in the 5K will begin at 9:05am.
If you have registered early, you can pick up your packet on Friday, March 25th, at Planet Fitness on 1060 West Mercury Boulevard in Hampton. Whether you plan to participate or not, cheer on your neighbors and raise awareness for the Colon Cancer Coalition!Back to all posts
