What started out in 1938 as an azalea garden has now become one of Hampton Roads’ most beautiful masterpieces, the Norfolk Botanical Garden (NFB). Its 155 charming acres include 52 themed gardens. Visitors can enjoy the view by tram, boat, or walking tours. Here are some of the upcoming events:
Suds and Buds. Friday May 13th, 6PM to 10PM
Each year, NFB has a spring fundraising party for adults 21 and over. Tickets are $35 in advance and $45 at the door. Admission includes food, drinks, and live music. The food will be served up by restaurants in the local area. You will also receive 2 drink tickets to cover you for craft beer, wine, and more. Enjoy the ambiance with live music by singer and songwriter, Lewis McGehee. Bring your friends and don’t forget to enjoy the garden tram rides.
Fragrant Roses Walk and Talk. Wednesday May 25th, 1:30PM to 3:30PM
Roses are beautiful, everyone would agree, and that lovely scent makes them a favorite. Most of us just know them by color, but did you know that roses come in hundreds of species? Horticulturalist, John Ingraham, will be your guide as you visit some of the many species of roses featured at the Norfolk Botanical Garden.
The Garden is open all year round, except for major holidays. It is available for weddings and other special events. The address is 6700 Azalea Garden Road. General admission is free for members, $12 for adults, and $10 for seniors, military, and children ages 3-17.
