The Mariners’ Museum and Park in Newport News always has much to see and do. Not only do they have the ironclad USS Monitor, they have 550 acres of scenic woodlands. The park is host to special events and festivals each year. Every Thursday this summer, from June 2nd through August 25th, they will be hosting a free concert series on the banks of the 167-acre Lake Maury. It’s called Thursdays by the Lake and great live bands will play from 6PM to 10PM. Here’s some info on the upcoming lineup.
June 2 – The Deloreans
These Deloreans can’t take you on a real trip to your past, but they can take you back through music. The band features 6 vocalists that cover the best artists and songs from the 80’s. You’ll enjoy the variation in sounds as each vocalist takes their turn throughout the show.
June 16 – Wonderland
This 4-piece band shows no partiality when it comes to music genres. They play rock, pop, alternative, country, you name it. Everyone will enjoy grooving to the sounds of their keyboard, guitars, banjo, trumpet, bass, and drums.
June 30 – Slapnation
Now this band knows how to put on a show. They have the vocals, horns, rhythm, and a professional light show. These 9 professionals work hard to stay attuned to their audience and make sure everyone is having a good time.
Please bring a blanket or chair with you. The park will have food and drinks available for purchase. Check out the website for the complete musical lineup.Back to all posts
